I used to work at Twycross as a volunteer and got to know each Chimp face so I could I.D them. There were about 30 Chimps back then.

This is Samantha. She does resemble Peter as she’s his mother, but Peter lacks the pursed lips, and the clear colour contrast of black upper body and silver rear end/legs.
When I started visiting back in 2016/2017 there were 21 chimpanzees. Seven of these are confirmed to have died over the last five/six years - Choppers, Mongo, Danny, Lottie, Rosie, Tojo and Noddy. Therefore, there should be 14 chimpanzees at the zoo still assuming Samantha is indeed alive; William, Peter and Tommy in the small group, and Jambo, Flynn, Jomar, Kibale, Coco, Samantha, Holly, Josie, Victoria, Genet and Tuli in the big group. The only way we can determine this for certain is an individual to go to the zoo and count…if there’s three on one side and 11 on the other, then that’s that!

Certainly looks like Samantha to me when comparing to a couple of old photos I have. Glad to see she is ok!

@hjkr my first reaction on seeing the photo was "Oh Samantha". Sadly she has now passed away last year in early November. The staff said her health suddenly declined.
