Penguins. Probably the best exhibit for these birds I’ve ever seen.

Some pretty strong exhibits here in Calgary. The penguin exhibit is probably the best I have ever seen.
This is a really cool photo as whenever I've been to Calgary I've always visited the zoo during July or August. At that time of the year, the Humboldt Penguins are always in this exhibit, so it's cool to see a 'switcheroo'. I knew that the Kings and Gentoos were allowed out here in the winter months, but it's surprising that the little dens are all covered up.

@snowleopard All the dens were covered…to be honest I wondered what those were. Regarding dens and denning do you know if the Black Bears and Brown Bears are allowed to den “naturally.” I noticed their enclosures appeared to have multiple “dens,” although perhaps those were just weather and sun shelters.

@Pleistohorse Yes, the bears do den and in fact disappear for most of the winter. Calgary Zoo has a very hands-off approach to the management of the bears in the colder months. Also, the ongoing construction is for the brand-new Polar Bear complex that will be part of the revamp of the 21-acre Canadian Wilds zone.
