@Dhole dude I've been to a half dozen zoos with the species (including Simmons), some multiple times, and I've only seen one once, and that was from a distance with the old animal curled up in the back of the exhibit Seriously jealous!
@TinoPup on both my visit to Simmons & Henry Doorly, the Swift Foxes were quite active (which I guess isn’t very typical of the species), but it was definitely a treat to see this species up-close at two locations in two days .
I didn't see the Swift Foxes at Omaha. I chose not to visit Lee G. Simmons in order to spend more time at Omaha, but if I would have known I could get get Swift Fox photos like this I might not have made that choice!
@Dhole dude Didn't see Omaha's, either The one I saw was at Brandywine. I have a pawprint painting from that one, too.
@birdsandbats You probably wouldn't have gotten photos like this, at least. Along with the animals often being hidden, the sunlight on this exhibit can be awful, so one side is way too bright and the other side is really dark. Dhole dude seems to have gotten lucky with weather/lighting and animal behavior!
@TinoPup both the Safari Park and Omaha's swift foxes (now gone) are almost impossible to see, even as a resident of Omaha I've only seen them like 4 times.
When I visited Omaha last year a docent told me she had only seen the swift foxes twice in the last ten years. Not a surprise the zoo no longer holds them.
