The accompanying description outlined this development plan was released in 1991 detailing immersive style habitats in thematic zones. Most interesting is the “Carnviores” zone.
Many years ago, I read about plans for a “Predator Gorge” to be created at Auckland Zoo and believe this is what they referred to. Under these plans, the large space (now the site of the Australian precinct) that exhibited various ungulates (Bison and Llama etc.) over the years was due to house carnivores (probably Sumatran tiger); with smaller carnivores exhibited in the exhibits to the left of the lion pit.
