Books specifically about British zoos

February 27, 2022.
Animals on view and the Good Zoo Guide were and still are among my all time favourite books because they were so well researched and written. They were the main reason that I visited most of the mentioned Zoos. Other big influences were the Gerald Durrell and James Herriot books
and of course David Attenborough's TV shows really fueled my interest in animals.

@TinoPup It's called Wildlife in Britain: Guide to Natural Habitats, Safari Parks and Zoos and was published in 1976. Edited by Kenneth Williamson and Geoffrey Schomberg (who also wrote the book in the top left-hand corner of my photo), it was published by "The Automobile Association". It's a big, heavy hardcover, approximately 340 pages, divided into geographical sections of England, Scotland and Wales. Each section contains information about the zoos of the region, as well as a lot of pages devoted to the wildlife of the area. Some zoos only have two paragraphs, while London Zoo has 10 informative pages.
