...while discussing such personal matters, I took the attached picture in April. I was stunned by the size of Bao Bao's testicles. Readers of Viz may be reminded of a favourite character from yesteryear...
I think it was Desmond Morris who commented something similar about the Russian male 'AnAn' during the failed attempts at mating wih ChiChi- that there was no mistaking he was male...when I saw him at London this was clearly evident also. This being in contrast to the early confusion over sexing 'ChiChi'- the difference being of course she was immature at the time.
Wow, I'm jelous, yeees, he only came over once in 1969, after a failed attempemt to mate chi-chi with an-an at Moskow zoo in 1966. Your a very lucky man pertinax

Somewhere I have an old photo of him on the log platform in the outside enclosure. (I also have a Russian postcard of him too.) The ChiChi/ AnAn saga was a major piece of zoo history- sadly one that failed... Have you got the book 'Men & Pandas' by Desmond Morris? It contains good photos and the best detailed descriptions of their Russian meeting are in there.
Pertinax, could I be REALLY cheeky, and ask you to try and dig that out for me? and yes, it was, it was also of huge political importance, officials thought it might worsen anglo-american relations (due to it being at the height of the cold war) and worsen Russian-Chinese relations (as it was around the time of the sino-soviet split). Its a great shame that it failed tho. Could I ask, did they send chi-chi to moskow and bring an-an to london when chi-chi was on heat, or could they not know that infomation back then?
