Chapultepec zoo has 3 of these gnus. They arrived just before the time zoo was closed due to COVID . They are the only ones of their species in Mexico. I wonder where they came from.

Regarding where they came from, I am wondering the same thing. Three likely scenarios would be sourcing them from a private facility in the United States (Perhaps in Texas), sourcing them from a European zoo, or importing them directly from South Africa.

Another source could be the Zoologico Nacional de Cuba in Havana, which recieved gnus from Namibia a few years back. This Havana zoo has already sent Chapultepec African leopards and a lovely pair of Brown Hyenas.
