Beijing is one of the four zoos in China (and in the world) with this species, the other three being Hangzhou, Hefei and Huangshan. According to a 2020 news release they kept a group of 18 and apparently there were newborns since then. The muntjacs moved into their current exhibit in late 2018. Arguably the best part of so-called "Deer Garden", the same row consists of six enclosures for hairy-fronted muntjac, water deer and Siberian ibex. Sadly the renovated part only accounts for about 20% of the ungulate area. The rest of the enclosures remain more or less the same as when they were first built in the early 1980s.
