At the heart of Jurong were 3 large water bodies, one housing swans and ducks, another housing pelicans, and the largest of which housed flamingos. In the early 2000s, Flamingo Lake was home to one of the largest flamingo flocks in captivity - over 600 Greater and Lesser Flamingos at its peak. The Lessers were eventually moved to their own exhibit as they were being outcompeted by the Greaters for nesting sites at the Flamingo Lake. The population of Greaters was then gradually reduced in recent years in preparation for the move to the new Bird Paradise (which does not have large water bodies). At last count, there were about 160 Greaters left at Flamingo Lake.
The lake was set against the backdrop of The Lodge, a 3-storey restaurant and event hall.
