Jurong's climate-controlled Penguin exhibit first opened in 1990 as "Penguin Parade", housing 5 Penguin species - King, Macaroni, Southern Rockhopper, Humboldt and Little, and Inca Tern. There was also a smaller adjacent enclosure with Atlantic Puffin and Red-legged Kittiwake.
The exhibit underwent a couple of cosmetic makeovers over the years, most recently in 2010 when it was revamped as "Penguin Coast", with the addition of an outdoor habitat for African Penguins. The external façade of the indoor Penguin habitat was also themed as a Portugese galleon with a 21 metre tall mast.
