The outdoor habitat for African Penguins transferred from the Singapore Zoo was added in 2010, repurposing the space previously occupied by the short-lived African Wetlands exhibit (housing Shoebill, Saddlebill Stork, Crowned Crane, Blue Crane, Eastern White Pelican, White-breasted Cormorant, among others). The habitat had an indoor air-conditioned den cum nesting area that the Penguins could access at all times.
This outdoor habitat was also where visitors had the chance to hand feed the African Penguins for a small fee.
