A Funny Picture

Badger do not hibernate, they just reduce their activity during the cold weather, and the picture is European Badger.
Wisconsin is proud of the badger, its state animal, but it is almost always depicted as the European species just about anywhere. I thought MCZ would do better though.

Prairie dogs don't hibernate, either. Neither do bears but they do enter a pretty deep torpor, so close enough I guess.

@birdsandbats I recall when I went to Cotswold Wildlife Park in February, the prairie dogs were out and active !
Though perhaps my climate in the UK is different than Wisconsin

@dillotest0 Your climate is different, but prairie dogs are frequently out in winter here, too. They enter torpor during the coldest times but never more than a few days at a time. We actually have them in the wild here, although they are introduced.

But yeah, I'm assuming you don't have your ground covered in snow for at least 3 months of the year, with temperatures not exceeding 30 degrees Fahrenheit most winter days, and dipping down to below -30 degrees Fahrenheit not particularly uncommon?
