The zoo considers the sea lions to be the stars of the show but it’s obvious who the real fan favorites are. The Houston Zoo’s entrance is now decorated with penguins swimming along to celebrate the grand opening of this one of a kind exhibit.
And that my friends, marks the end of my pictures of the Houston Zoo’s Galápagos Islands. Definitely an exhibit that was worth the wait, after many years and many delays. It exceeded all of my expectations and I cannot wait for the rest of you to see it for yourselves. Definitely Houston’s magnus opus atleast for now. One thing I found very interesting though, after talking to a keeper I found out that Houston actually had a contract to get penguins around 6 or so years ago, but the contract was lost literally last minute. This was especially unfortunate for the Houston Zoo because they’d already started advertising the penguin’s arrival and people were not just expecting but demanding to see them. Thankfully now, the lack of penguins at Houston will never be a complaint from guests again…. until they start asking for hippos… and then wolves… then polar bears…. and pandas… and you know what nevermind.
