Caspian tigers

From the 1899 guidebook. A subspecies now extinct.
You're a lucky bastard :p shame that you presumably did not get any photographs of the animals in question, as (amazingly, considering how recently we are talking) I am not aware of any proven photographs of any of the individuals at the zoos I mentioned

Not really lucky if I can't remember seeing them...:( I did see the two female Mountain Gorillas though.:)

True; it is the same kind of luck as the fact I presumably saw the last Saiga at HWP and the Sooty Mangabeys at Flamingo Land but remember neither :p

Having found the Hagebeck photo referred to above, thought I would post it here:

Lastcaptiveturantigress1955-1960HagenbecksTierpark.jpg

There's another one, taken by the same photographer (just before?) of the same Tiger smelling the ground. Still haven't got used to the idea of it being there at such a recent time.

Like Pertinax I may have seen a living Javan tiger but like him too, I can't remember. I visited during 1967 Tilburg Zoo ( now closed ) but I was 2 years old at that time.....so no rememberings from that :(
