Could this be a smaller species suchh as B. doederleinii or a related species of Bathynomus? In Japan I believe none of the native isopods are B. giganteus and are different species.
@splendens you are completely right! I don’t know why I said giganteus, this is with certainty B. doederleini like everywhere in Japan. I must have been sleepy
