What: Common thresher shark, Alopias vulpinus, being prepared for dissection

What is the story behind this? Why was the shark killed / how did it die?

@ZooElephantsMan The shark was found dead, washed up on some beach in Humboldt County, CA. As for its cause of death, I do not know, but then again, I was unable to ask many questions as the procedure was being done while I was in class. (This photo was taken while I was rushing across campus in-between periods).
