@Lucas Lang if you’re up here in AK the easiest way to spot them without flying over to Kodiak or the Katmai/Lake Clark Areas (Natron Air flying from the Funny River Airport in Soldotna is a sure bet… they fly you over the Cook Inlet to the Silver Salmon Creek Area …not too expensive as a once every few years indulgence maybe), is Denali Park. I’ve seen them on every visit. The Russian River area in Cooper Landing is a good bet…but be careful. The Denali and Dalton Highways pass along mountain slopes and wet tundra areas were bears can often be spotted. A somewhat secret spot that a lot of people don’t notice is the Bird Point pull off between Girdwood and Anchorage. With good optics you can usually spot a bear or two on the slopes above the highway. Eagle River Nature Center and Eklutna Lake are also near Anchorage and known for bear sightings…but again be careful. For Black Bears drive around the Anchorage Hillside Neighborhoods and down around Potters Marsh. Late in the evening you’ll probably get lucky a good percent of the time and spot a Black Bear from the road.
