From the Eastport Harbor exhibit at New England Aquarium
Wouldn't M. edulis make more sense geographically as it's at the New England Aquarium in a harbor tank depicting the Eastern seaboard? I'd be quite surprised if they acquired M. californicus for that purpose.

Ooops, sorry, I mistook in my head the New England aquarium for Birch aquarium. They're the two public aquaria that I've been in USA (besides SeaWorld), but in opposite coasts. In New England aquarium they should be of course Mytilus edulis - they have a very strong affiliation with native marine biota, rather than exotic one. Excuse my mistake.
