This is a very special photo as it shows Sule (alpha male) sitting on the rock by that was a favoured resting place of his father (Lubutu) and grandfather (Snowy) when they were the alpha males of Taronga’s community.
It’s amazing to think this exhibit has just turned 43 years old. It opened in June 1980, the week before Spitter gave birth to Sacha. This means Lisa is now the only chimpanzee in the community to have lived in the old exhibit/cage block and Spitter was the last chimpanzee to have had any memory of it (Lisa was an infant when the community moved).
