Did you see what was in there by chance? The top right of the main exhibit looks like it could be a hog of some kind but also every dark round object can look like a hog from far away.
I saw a handful of the pigs and was wondering what species they were. Thanks @Kudu21 . The off-show hoofstock yards and off-show smaller enclosures all around San Diego Zoo are astonishing, many of them not noticeable until one takes the Skyfari ride and gets an aerial view of the park. There's a whole other zoo that the public doesn't get to explore!
@Kudu21 Ok that makes sense, I always thought the Takin were in the off show exhibits behind polar plunge but it would be more logical to keep them close to Panda Canyon. @snowleopard Between the hillside exhibits, the exhibits and aviaries behind polar plunge, and the countless exhibits behind the savanna exhibits at the wild animal park it’s hard to fathom just how deep SDZWA behind the scenes species diversity is.
@Westcoastperson — These are the hillside yards behind Polar Plunge. This is the view from the Skyfari loading station there. The yards you are thinking of between Owens Aviary and Panda Canyon are home to tufted deer.
