The 'L' family genes are unsurprisingly strong here!
I'm not certain where she is in her cycles-- Galatea was at the peak of a swelling last week, and I believe Lani was at the beginning of a swelling. So, maybe? Definitely not in Galatea's case, though.
@marmolady The tits are very pronounced which is usually a strong indicator for pregnancy, but I couldn't be certain ultimately as in some females it can occasionally also occur during swellings, so who knows. Hopefully though. An infant from her this year would be amazing. A male would probably be best for support, and he could be vasectomised if they wished (to further limit the 'L' line).
@Jambo Lani has always had very prominent pink nipples, to the point where it'd be one of the first things I'd tell people to look for when trying to pick her out. This is just Lani normal unfortunately-- though I, of course, have my fingers tightly crossed that a pregnancy will happen soon.
@Jambo She’s fairly flat-chested; but could potentially be in the early stages of pregnancy. Hopefully she has better luck raising her next infant. I can’t help but feel being away from Lisa with unfamiliar chimps didn’t help last time. At least this time, she well settled in this grouping and there’s a history of cross-fostering.
@Zoofan15 Lani has actually been recently taken on an 'aunt' role to Hope, even carrying her around. She's definitely very settled and has close bonds with key members of the group. Being mother-reared, you'd expect her to take to infant-rearing, and I too suspect it was just a very unfortunate situation for her last time.
@marmolady That’s good to hear. She was a very aloof juvenile at Taronga, but showed fleeting interest in Fumo apparently. Lisa (an excellent mother) rejected Lubutu initially (after rearing Lobo well), so it may have been a fluke of circumstance.
