Here a view from near the entrance to the 13.5-hectare Safari section of the park. These hills provide some relief in the barren, red landscape (which does look like the real African savannah). You can find a species list below the picture;
Below is a hopefully complete species list of the safari exhibit.
The main safari enclosure is divided into 2 major sections. There is not really a difference in the species composition of the two, but I only saw wildebeest in the second, smaller enclosure, so I guess these only live in the second enclosure of the safari.
There were also 3 more enclosure next to the road through the safari area, the species of these enclosures are listed at the bottom in a separate section; Free roaming:
- Hamadryas baboon (Papio hamadryas)
- Watusi (Bos primigenius f. taurus)
- Grant’s zebra (Equus quagga boehmi)
- Blue wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus taurinus)
- Common eland (Tragelaphus oryx)
- Nilgai (Boselaphus tragocamelus)
- Blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra)
- Lechwe (Kobus leche)
- Ostrich (Struthio camelus) (not quite sure if these were also held in the safari)
In enclosures in or around the safari:
- Hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius)
- Southern white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum simum)
