Finally ZooChatters respond to my 2008 criticism! Leipzig has obviously had this baboon rock for decades, and it is similar to many other primate and ibex "mountains" of their era. We all realize that it is outdated, and I always shake my head when I visit zoos that have opened at least 40 new exhibits during a 50 year period...while some animals languish in antiquated enclosures. But of course everything that is altered within a zoo is extremely expensive, and thus the baboons will have to wait their turn. I'm glad to hear that it will only be a few more years before this masterpiece is either demolished or drastically renovated.
