I cannot identify which lionfish species this is from this image - you really need to be able to count the rays in the dorsal, anal and pectoral fins. This individual as 14 pectoral fin rays, which suggests either Pterois miles or an intermediate morphotype between P. miles and P. volitans. If collected from the east coast of Australia, it is almost certainly an intermediate morphotype. Apparently there has been doubt cast on the species status of volitans and miles, and their extreme similarity (only really differing in fin ray counts) and extremely large hybrid zone suggesting that these two "species" may actually represent clinal variation in a single species.
