It's fascinating how some stuff like the locations of the lions, giraffes, African wading birds, and bears have barely changed, and how the legacy of that Pampas exhibit went so far back and now it's just... gone.
 
@AlmightyKingPrawn that’s somewhat surprising to me, considering how many major exhibits Detroit has for aquatic animals (Arctic Ring of Life, National Amphibian Conservation Center, Polk Penguin Conservation Center)
 
Detroit Zoo announced tentative plans to build a $150 million aquarium in the downtown core that would attract in excess of one million visitors per year. That bold declaration came in 2018 and the last 5 years has seen the world upended with a variety of problems. I'm assuming that the grand aquarium idea is dead in the water (pun intended), but it would be neat to see the zoo build something involving fish on their grounds. A perfect location would be near the River Otter and Beaver exhibits, which are very close to the world-class National Amphibian Conservation Center.
