As dated and as frequently as the Zoo has updated this exhibit, I would have thought they'd invest in a proper exhibit next to the new Aquarium or something - especially on the hill between the Aquarium and elephant exhibit. The sea lion exhibit has always been plagued by terrible water quality, sub par animal holding, and just an uncomfortable guest experience. Perhaps this renovation will help, but the sterile atmosphere looks like it will remain.
I've felt for a while that pinnipeds often get the short end of the stick when it comes to exhibitry, still feels like they are often exhibited as being animals for shows and performance rather than in more naturalistic environments.
I don't really have an issue with such "sea lion shows" as long as they provide good enrichment for the animals and are educational in nature but it feels like there must be some sort of better middleground.
