This is a display located in the zoo’s vet clinic. The world’s first successful castration of a common hippopotamus was conducted at Auckland Zoo in 1993. The bull in question was a hippopotamus named Fudge, who was born at Auckland Zoo in 1988 (also notable for being a twin). He died there in 2016.
