It appears to me that this entire exhibit gives the illusion of animal welfare with its over the top theming. Yes, the temple work is cool, but all the exhibits offer virtually no enrichment besides some climbing structures, and they all are far too small as well!
I don't feel like they are too small when compared to most other facilities. Is it a Bronx or San Diego? No but they aren't necessarily trying to be, I feel he is trying to do the best he can with what he has. And they just opened these exhibits so there is always time to add to the exhibits. Not to mention they are giving the species outside access which many zoos don't always do so well.
I feel that the limited funds would of been better off being used for more naturalistic and enriching enclosures rather than the mock South American temple theming. It may be aesthetically impressive at first glance but from the pictures posted the actual animal habitats within are disappointingly bare imo. Hopefully this new temple addition draws in more visitors and eventually leads to the enclosures themselves getting an upgrade with greater funds generated, but time will tell.
