Streaked weaver (male)

Ploceus manyar.
This is an Indian species. 3 males arrived recently from a private individual. I am told they are the only ones on show in a zoo in Europe. @bongorob and I counted 5 different species of weaver birds in the central aviary block - but these are the most unusual.

Thanks for sharing this excellent photo Gentle Lemur! I saw the mention of weavers of an unspecified species arriving in the news thread, but it’s nice to know what species they were and how rare they are.

Might I ask what the other four species are, as I can't recall ever seeing near that amount at Exmoor?

@Kalaw Village weaver, red-billed quelea, Madagascar red fody & fire-crowned bishop.

@Kalaw I also don't recall seeing any other species in the aviary block other than the village weavers on my first visit last year.
