Wow, I have never seen this guy before, he must be new, the only time I've seen a parrot at the World of Primates aviary was a Princess Parrot in the World of Primates aviary back in 2021. Never seen this species before, will have to look for it next time I go!
You're right or you're close with the species identification - the Charmosyna lorikeets are difficult to distinguish, the taxonomy is in flux, and there are a lot of common names. I think this is the melanistic form of what is now called the Papuan Lorikeet (Charmosyna papou); however, some ornithologists consider this the Mount Goliath subspecies of the Stella's Lorikeet (Charmosyna stellae goliathina) if you consider that a valid species. I don't have a dog in that fight, but I think this is a beautiful photo of an awesome lorikeet! And another reason for me to visit Fort Worth.
