Ding Lingwei

Baiji (Lipotes vexillifer), the second to last wild specimen

The specimen, an old female, was found stranded in Chongming Island, Shanghai on February 18th, 1998. She passed away on March 1st, 1998, despite efforts to save her life. She turned out to be the second to last wild Baiji ever recorded, as well as the last wild specimen seen alive.
