Common Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus)

09/21/2023 - Taken from the Atlantic Explorer Tour Boat (operated by the Virginia Aquarium) off of Virginia Beach.
Yes, this was taken just off the beach (which you can see at the top of the photo; you can just barely make out a person standing near the upper right).

As for the coastal species, are you referring to the Tamanend's bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops erebennus)? There is a non-zero chance this could be one, but for now, I'm more inclined to believe this is Tursiops truncatus, since that species can also live inshore and is more common. Also, iNaturalist does not recognize T. erebennus, and it looks like it's taxonomic status hasn't been fully accepted yet.
