Chapultepec zoo now exhibits 5 different species of axolotl, lake xochimilco axolotl, toluca axolotl, lerma river axolotl, lake patzcuaro axolotl and lake zacapu axolotl.
These are ambystoma andersoni, which are quite rare in US zoos, but can be found in the private sector. Critically endangered in the wild, found only in Lake Zacapu, Michoacan, which is shrinking due to deforestation.
