The crocodile monitor (Varanus salvadorii)

Another one in indoor enclosure of reptopia, which was for blue tree monitor (Varanus macraei) before. Personally I like to see crocodile monitor, but just don't want to see duplicated display.

They are quite limited at the moment as to where they can house the offspring. They used to rotate one of the windowed enclosures in Fragile Forest for V. salvadorii but I cannot remember why they stopped.

From what I understand, due to the initial design of the enclosure, through trial-and-error, they realised a lot of the species they have cannot be kept inside as they kept finding new spaces to escape through even after repeatedly patching up the old routes and attempting to close off the exhibit. So unless the whole reptile house is redone to remedy these escape points it seems only the really large species or animals that cannot climb the walls can be housed in these spaces.

Guess they moved the blue speckled tree monitor off display. Are the New Caledonian giant geckos and yellow-margined box turtles still there?
