ROSEATE SPOONBILL - Ajaia ajaia
Range - Breeds from southern United States to Argentina and Chile.
Spoonbills are sociable birds and feed in flocks of from five to six individuals to much large ones numbering in the hundreds. Their food, consisting of small fish, shellfish and other water life, is obtained by swinging their spatula-like bill from side to side in the water. The tip of the bill has sensitive nerve endings which aid them in finding food.
