The blackrail fencing will be the new barriers for an expanded giraffe outdoor exhibit. The current fencing and exhibit size is seen here (the chain link in background of the photo). The new fencing will double the size of the giraffe outdoor area.
While still small, yes, the chain link fences farther back were taken down. The space is probably doubled of what the grassy area is in the photo. Again, not the most ideal, but more space than the giraffes had the the chain-link pens nonetheless.
