Ummm…
I was thinking of visiting this zoo, but judging by the pictures in the ZooChat gallery (especially this one, at least if they still keep chimps) it looks… just plain sad. I know that this is most definitely not an opinion shared by everyone, but I find this enclosure, and many other ones in the zoo, ugly, small, and horribly inadequate. I believe they no longer keep chimps, but judging by some of their bird & giraffe exhibits, this is not looking like a zoo that I want to visit.
@Gibbonsagainstgravity The Chimpanzee exhibit is very poor indeed and these days the zoo doesn't even have chimps as they were all sent away. Currently, there's a flock of Flamingos inside this ape cage that is now an aviary! Sacramento Zoo is more than likely permanently closing down in the future, with a nearby zoo in Elk Grove taking its place several years from now.
@Gibbonsagainstgravity The zoo has been working to improve exhibit spaces over the last several years. They currently are seeking to build a whole new facility as snowleopard has mentioned. As it currently stands, it's an older facility but nice enough, especially with the removal of several of the older exhibits in the last few years. Up to you whether to visit or not of course, but it's certainly a nice enough zoo. Certainly quite a lot better than some other facilities around.
