Since 2020, the tayra subspecies are no longer recognized as valid. This is because of the limited genetic evidence, although certain previous subspecies have large fur differences from one another. I'm curious to see what the future will show us. I labelled these specimens as cf. because the animals are officially of this subspecies, but it doesn't match the original description of poliocephala. They are supposed to have a big throat patch reaching as far as the shoulders and even the back of the animal. This is not the case here.
