I actually never went back and worked out which ones I'd seen at Arnhem in the end but this does look anthus-y. I think at the time it was actually a mixed pair if I recall.
The main reason I didn't put the effort in, in truth, is that I didn't need to - I've certainly seen genuine Golden Jackals later and what we'd now call C. anthus at least twice after this - once here and once here. (Note that neither is actually labelled as such due to the fast-moving Canis scenario at the time. )
@Maguari according to ztl it was a hybrid between an Abyssinian golden wolf (Canis anthus riparius) and Egyptian wolf (Canis anthus lupaster) (never too old to learn something new)
also a shame the (large pack) of European golden jackal moved out
