Cologne Zoo - Red howler monkey

A male red howler monkey howling in Cologne Zoo, Germany. I was fortunate enough to hear this pair howling twice during my last visit to Cologne. Cologne Zoo keeps a large breeding group of these monkeys but are unfortunately the only ones in Europe to do so

Great photo Toddy! When I spent 3 months living in Trinidad & Tobago I visited the Emperor Valley Zoo and spent 20 minutes listening to the incredible racket that a group of howlers was creating. It is quite something to hear such booming sounds coming from mid-size monkeys.

Thanks snowleopard I am quite proud of this photo as the conditions were very difficult (through glass and poor light). I have also been fortunate enough to hear the howlers on every visit to Cologne Zoo so far. It is a fascinating sound and I even managed to capture it on video last time I went.
