Phoenix Zoo, Arizona Trail mixed-species native birds enclosure (Jan 8)
Weird bird. My guess would be juvenile Socorro Dove but I can't find any photos of that to confirm.

@birdsandbats yeah this one really puzzled me. I was thinking ruddy-ground dove or white-tipped or something, but those don't look right either. Only mourning and white-winged are signed. I would think this is a AZ native, but not really any matches.

@CMP White-tipped Dove are not native to Arizona, and Ruddy Ground Dove only occurs as a vagrant.

I can tell you this is not Mourning Dove or White-winged Dove or Band-tailed Pigeon or Inca Dove, and I don't think it's Common Ground Dove, which would seen to rule out all of the native species then. Socorro Dove has of course never been recorded in the US but it is found in Mexico in a very similar climate to AZ and has been increasing in popularity in North American zoos in recent years. That would be my bet.

@birdsandbats I know, I listed those as other similar birds that could be kept, not as the natives for which there aren't any good matches. I was trying to convey that it would make sense to have a native sp. here rather than whatever this is

@Ituri Looking back this is definitely most likely. Pictures match and there is a male of the same species in the Tropical Flights aviary.
