The model of the new Hippodom in Cologne Zoo, Germany. The Hippodom will open in 2010 and be a thematic exhibit featuring wildlife from the African wetlands. The highlights will, of course, be common hippopotamus but species such as nile crocodiles, sitatungas and bee-eaters will also have a home of the new Hippodom.

Again, a new hippo house with a too small outdoor exhibit with a very small landpart, the germans zoos wll never learn it. And as always, it looks great to the vistors, more important than the animals, thats very typical for german zoos.
 
European Fauna
In Cologne everybody understands the "Dom" to be the world-famous Cathedral. So does "Hippodom" mean "Hippo Cathedral"? I am a huge fan of art & architecture , but even more so of zoos - each time I have been to Cologne I never visited inside the Cathedral because I spent all my time in the zoo.Such is the life of the zoo enthusiast.

Does anyone have a date for the opening other than 2010?

And European Fauna the Dom is well worth a visit inside, I'm not religious at all but I'm always awe- struck whenever I see this place, and the fact it's right next to the train station and U -bahn where you go to the zoo, then you have no excuse just to go inside for 5 minutes next time.

THis will open in may 2010. As of "german zoos will never learn it" they actual meaning is that you will see the hippo's indoor under water..
