Chilean flamingo, Lugar de las aves - Temaiken

"Lugar de las aves" (bird's place) is the famous set of aviaries Temaiken has for representative birds of the five continents. In the past, most of the aviaries were "walkthroug", but due to several issues, about one year ago the institution decided to close them and invest in adequations.

@Summer Tanager
Yeah, the aviaries were considered by many to be some of the very best in South america... It's truly a shame they are interdited at the moment. The flamingo flock though is thriving more than ever, and it's probably the largest I've seen under human cares.

Hopefully the repairs and renovations on the the aviaries will go smoothly and the zoo will end up with a better and more secure series of habitats for their bird collection. I would hate to see the zoo lose that space for displaying birds and showing visitors the diversity of birds across the globe. Just like Jana, I'm curious to know how large the Chilean Flamingo flock is too - it looks like it's over 80 birds, but I can't tell with certainty.

@Summer Tanager
Completely agree with you. It would be truly sad to lose such an important part of the institution, but I'm pretty sure they'll find a way. I passed some time with the animal welfare crew and they told me they're still planning the interventions.
@Jana
I'm gonna check with the crew about the number of individuals, but I remember counting more than 100 during the visit.
