A great photo! Not many zoos have this species these days and I've NEVER seen a Brown Hyena at 551 different zoos/aquariums. Only Dvur Kralove, Prague, Hamerton and 7 other zoos are listed on Zootierliste.
@ralph I had an opposite problem; I recall planning a trip to Germany [as I executed] largely to visit Wildkatzenzentrum Felidae; as I saw it having all of the [true] hyaena species as a good value. And at the time it was one of only two zoos in Europe [the other being Prague] with the species.
And when Hamerton received brown hyaenas it was a bit ironic... as I wouldn't have to have gone so far to see them... but then I wouldn't have seen spotted or striped hyaenas as I did!
I don't think I'll visit northern Czech Republic again anytime soon, but I might consider revisiting some southern zoos (Zlin, Brno, Ostrava) which would also grant me the possibily to see aardwolves in Zlin (I've seen aardwolves just once before in Berlin. The one female in Halle died shorty after my visit and was already behind the scenes at that point). Might combine that with a revisit to the zoos in Vienna.
