@biggiesmalls That's a shame, though still great you saw them. One of the birds at the San Diego Zoo is very vocal and responsive. If you're not familiar with their call, would definitely suggest listening to it:
(just an example, more videos can be found on YouTube)
One of the coolest calls out there
I always appreciate hearing L. vociferans personally. Brings me back to the Upland Tropical Rainforest at NAIB as a little kid every single time.
@biggiesmalls Definitely! San Diego has one of those as well now, also very vocal. I think with that one I was already expecting it because of the name; first time I heard the Capuchinbird I was genuinely shocked
Both birds make me think about how undervalued bird sounds and calls are in a zoo experience though; the prettiest and most colorful birds may be the first to grab guests' attention, but how many people will remember those birds months/years later compared to hearing a capuchinbird or piha sound off?
@Coelacanth18 I'll be the first to admit, I always head to a facility looking for at least a few prime target species, but the lasting memories tend to be the interesting behaviors, regardless of what animal they come from
Now, the Shoebill definitely ticked both of those boxes off, lol
