The large viewing windows and enormous skylights on the roof must have been massively expensive, which probably explains why there are only a handful of river hippo exhibits in European zoos that include underwater viewing. In Canada and the United States there will be an even dozen hippo habitats with underwater viewing once Memphis finalizes the construction process for its latest exhibit complex. Without doubt seeing hippos gracefully swimming underwater is far superior to viewing them as lumps on top of the surface of a pool.
