I always marvel at the architecture within many European zoos, and the historic value of a building such as this hippo house is immense. It is amazing at how much effort went into so many pachyderm houses, and how the outer shell of those buildings are always intricately detailed and somewhat grandiose. Of course for the most part such designs are dated in terms of modern exhibitry, but what year did this structure originally open to the public?
