Nice shot. Good to see more males appearing in the herd now. These two with small antlers will have been in the first crop of calves( total of 3 I think) born in 2022 when they restarted breeding. The first breeding for many years as it was a female only herd previously.. The one facing away would be a calf from 2023.
@Pertinax thank you! It was difficult to pick out the males from a distance, but the shot from the camera makes it a bit easier. Fantastic to see they’re breeding well already, they’re one of my absolute favourite deer species.
@pendraig_milnerae And mine. I believe these calves are from two genetic lines that have finally crossed over here. Afaik the females are all from the Port Lympne line, the male is exWhipsnade having spent time at Knowsley before coming here.
