@Summer Tanager, sure definite or still a tiny tad doubting?
(personally I guess ... certain ..., but it is in the phrasing)
I would like to know and improve my knowledge base! Conservation-wise I use the information in my educational tours as the zoo has focus on Brasilian psittacines...with a conservation story.
@Kifaru Bwana I love that you've asked the question and I appreciate you wanting a definitive answer! It made me double check my identification as well and I always think we should look for three or more opinions regarding identifications. I'm very certain (99.99%) that this is a flock of Peach-fronted Parakeets. There are only two species of South American parakeets that have this combination of 1) a pale ring around the eye, 2) an orange to peach colored forehead, and 3) a blue band of feathers above the eye and behind the forehead. These are the Peach-fronted Parakeet (Eupsittula aurea) and the Orange-fronted Parakeet (Eupsittula canicularis). Of these two, only the Peach-fronted Parakeet has a dark bill and occurs in the country of Brazil. The Orange-fronted Parakeet has a pale bill color and is found in Central American from Costa Rica northward to the west coast of Mexico. Thank you for checking.
