I honestly don't think this is a bad exhibit for the tapirs - lots of swimming area and just as much land space as most outdoor tapir exhibits I've seen.
@birdsandbats I don't think it's as bad as its made out to be, and the more recent renovation giving them access to the upper half of the exhibit was a nice improvement. With that said, I wouldn't call it very good either. Keeping large mammals like tapirs indoors year round in already questionable, and imo I think its for the best if the zoo either phases out tapirs or moves them to another part of the zoo.
Out of curiosity @pachyderm pro where would you say this exhibit is in proximity to the outdoor okapi exhibit near Lied Jungle? There could be an argument to building a door and allowing the tapirs outside access...
